Range hoods for island cooking areas not only look fabulous, but they are also the best option for venting a kitchen island range. There are some important factors to take into consideration, however, when ordering a range hood for an island.

Since island range hoods are only secured to the ceiling, the weight of the unit puts more stress on the ceiling than units that secure to both a wall and the ceiling. Larger hoods may require reinforcement of the ceiling to adequately support the weight of the vent.
Island range hoods vent straight upwards to the ceiling, which results in less efficient ventilation capacity. To ensure adequate ventilation with an island range hood, you need a size larger than the range itself. For a 30” range, for instance, we would recommend at least a 34” range hood.
